Lucy Wise is a singer-songwriter based in Melbourne, Victoria. She regularly tours festivals and venues across Australia, has recorded three albums, teaches songwriting workshops at festivals and schools, and is co-founder of Neighbourhood Productions.
Hailing from the far South Western corner of Australia, singer-songwriter Lucy Wise has delighted audiences across Australia, New Zealand and the UK with her unique blend of folk, chamber and pop music combined with masterful storytelling. Drawing inspiration from her background in Appalachian and Celtic folk music, as well as legendary songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, Lucy’s songs sketch universally recognisable stories that are grounded in the realities of everyday experience.
Her latest release, A Painting of the Universe consists of five songs, each telling a different story about life in Australia and all inspired by past winning poems of a national schools poetry competition, The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards. The songs on the EP are set in a diversity of Australian landscapes and touch on many issues and themes including love, the social effects of drought, the mystery of ageing, the wonder of learning and creativity, and Australia’s Indigenous heritage.
As well as touring and recording her own projects, Lucy has co-produced several recordings with musician and sound engineer, Mischa Herman, including Maggie Rigby (of Mae Trio) – EP: Tangle of Strings, and Timothy Haines – Single: When I Was Thinking About Her. She is also co-founder of Neighbourhood Productions, a small production company that nurtures new music and ideas in the suburbs of Melbourne by running house concerts.
